Some questions we ask before starting a Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) way of eating

See some of the questions that we all ask when it comes to adopting a WFPB way of eating in our lifestyle

1 - What does WFPB mean?
  • WFPB means Whole Foods Plant Based

2 - What is the difference between being Vegan, Plant based and Whole foods plant based?

  • See chart below from articles in Forks Over Knives which helps to explain this much better and the types of foods that the 3 groups eat. The link for further information is What is a whole-food, plant-based diet?

3 - I am starting the plant based journey. I need some good meal ideas for the whole family.

4 - I am just starting a whole food plant based diet. I suffer from hypothyroidism. Any advice?
  • A vegan diet won't really affect your thyroid function but a whole food plant based diet would help control the associated weight gain of hypothyroidism

5 - How do I make sure we are getting enough protein? We are a very athletic family including my teenage children?
  • Dr Michael Greger, M.D FACLM is the founder of the Nutrition Facts.org, a channel which educates us on the benefits of following a WFPB way of eating. There is a video called Do Vegetarians Get Enough Protein? which I can recommend as it gives valuable insights.
  • There are many documentaries on TV (Netflix, `YouTube etc). 2 of them that I can recommend are "What The Health - watch online" and the "GameChangers". The GameChangers documentary showcases athletes who are currently following a WFPB way of eating, and the resulting benefits they achieve.
